Tanzania’s Minister for Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT), Honourable Dr. Jumanne Shukuru Kawambwa with a delegation of four most senior officials from Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar and a representative from the Civil Society are attending the Third World Education Forum (WEF) from 19-22 May 2015 in Incheon, Republic of Korea. The 2015 WEF is the third after the Jomtien WEF of 1990 and the Dakar WEF of 2000. The 2015 forum takes stock of achievements and challenges since the Dakar WEF and deliberates on the education agenda for the next fifteen years (2015-2030).

Tanzania was represented by a high profile delegation that consisted of two the Permanent Secretaries (from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training and from the Prime Minister’s Office-Regional Administration and Local Governments), the Commissioner for Education from MoEVT as well as the Deputy Principal Secretary from MoEVT Zanzibar. The Civil Society is represented by HakiElimu which is a member organization of the Tanzania Education Network (TEN/MET).

UNESCO is taking the lead in coordinating WEF with the collaboration of UNDP, UNHCR, UNFPA, UNICEF, UN Women and the World Bank (WB). The opening ceremony was attended by a number of high profile key speakers including Ms. Irina Bokova the Director General of UNESCO, representatives from the Government of the Republic of Korea and Mr Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations Secretary General, to mention but a few.

The 2015 WEF seeks to take stock of achievements and shortfalls in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals since the year 2000. The forum will also agree on a joint position for the education goal and targets in the post millennium development period (post 2015 development agenda). The agreements from the forum will be adopted by UN Member States at a Summit in September 2015;

The forum will further agree on a framework to support the implementation of the future education goal which focuses on equitable and inclusive quality education and lifelong learning for all by 2030.
